Hi there. I’m Sam Escobar, a writer, editor, and content strategist based in New York City. I have over 11 years of experience in editorial publishing and digital strategy with an emphasis on beauty, culture, health, and wellness. I enjoy nerding out about the internet and will happily get your favorite selfies to rank higher.
I joined Allure Magazine at Condé Nast in 2017 as the magazine’s digital deputy editor, eventually becoming its site director. I’ve held roles as senior commerce editor at Bustle (BDG), beauty editor at Good Housekeeping (Hearst), and managing editor of women's brands at The Gloss (Defy Media). I’ve reported from the Cannes Film Festival, Emmy Awards, and NYFW, appeared on panels for SXSW and Pride Month, and hosted talks with artists like Cara Delevingne and Jacob Tobia to discuss books, pop culture, identity, and gender.
My writing has been published in Business Insider, Esquire, Allure Magazine, Latina Magazine, VinePair, Well+Good, MEL Magazine, The Observer, and Cosmopolitan. I was named one of Brooklyn Magazine's "30 under 30" in 2018. (Also, the Daily Mail wrote me up twice and it only got weird once, so I consider that a win, too.)
I’ve performed poetry at venues in New York and Michigan, and in 2016, I co-edited Kill Your Darlings, Tweet Yr Drafts, an anthology/chapbook of casual love poetry from Twitter’s strange, wonderful, pre-Elon epoch. In my spare time, I enjoy playing piano, doing calligraphy inspired by memes and TV shows, practicing Russian and Spanish, and gazing lovingly at my 17-pound cat, Julius.
